Simulation Guide: Cutoff Saw page 1
The cutoff saw is used to cut long bars of tool steel into knife-size lengths, in preparation for hardening. Lengths vary from 1.25 to 12 inches. The knife blanks need to be cut shorter than their finished dimension because they grow several thousandths during heat treating. Exactly how much growth to allow must be determined by experimentation, because the percent of expansion varies from lot to lot of steel and with changes in heat treatment.
Click on Cutoff Saw in the main menu to have access to the Saw Controls sub menu, figure 1. Click on Saw Controls to bring up the saw control panel, figure 2.
Fig. 1. Use saw controls to open the saw control panel.
Click on the dimension key (green with 4 arrows) to set the cutting target length. For a 10 inch knife try 9.995" since the knife length will grow later during the hardening process.

Click on the N key to set the number of blades to cut. Start out with 288, which is one batch. Enter 288 using the saw control keypad.

The total cuts counter (marked with a sigma in a triangle) keeps track of the number of cuts on the current blade. Use this key only when the saw blade has been changed, because this key resets the total cuts to zero.

See page 2 about changing the saw blade.

The start key is green with a single white arrow. Press to start cutting knife blades to length.
